Why Speed Matters With Wet Carpet

Carpet acts like a sponge, and the pad underneath holds even more water than the carpet itself. The longer it stays wet, the worse the outcome:

Water wicks from the carpet into baseboards and the bottom of drywall.
The backing that holds carpet together can weaken and separate (called delamination).
Wet carpet in a closed-up Texas house quickly starts to smell musty, and mold can begin to grow.
Wood subfloors upstairs can swell and warp.

Can My Carpet Be Saved?

Often, yes, but it depends on the type of water and how long it has been wet:

Clean water from a broken supply line or a water heater: carpet can usually be dried and saved if we get to it quickly. The pad is often replaced because it is inexpensive and hard to dry fully.
Gray water from a washing machine or dishwasher: carpet may be salvageable with prompt extraction, cleaning and sanitizing.
Contaminated water from sewage backups or outside flooding: for health reasons, carpet and pad that have absorbed contaminated water generally need to be removed and replaced.

Our Wet Carpet Process

Extraction: we pull as much water as possible out of the carpet and pad with powerful extraction equipment.
Pad assessment: we check the pad and replace it when it can't be dried reliably.
Subfloor and wall check: moisture meters show whether water has spread under the floor or into the walls.
Drying: air movers and dehumidifiers dry the carpet, subfloor and surrounding materials, and we monitor until everything is dry.
Cleaning and deodorizing: once dry, the carpet is professionally cleaned so it looks and smells fresh.
Re-stretching and re-installation when the carpet was lifted for drying.

Upholstery and Rugs Too

Water damage rarely stops at the carpet. We also clean furniture, area rugs and upholstery affected by water, and if flooring needs to be replaced, our remodeling team can install new carpet, tile or luxury vinyl plank as part of the repair and rebuild.

What to Do While You Wait

Stop the water source if you can, and keep people and pets off soaked carpet.
Lift furniture off wet carpet, or slip foil or wood blocks under the legs so stains and rust don't transfer.
Pick up area rugs, shoes, papers and anything else sitting on the wet floor.
Don't use a household vacuum on wet carpet. It isn't built for water and can be dangerous.
